5 Types of USB

The term USB stands for Universal Serial Bus. Universal Serial Bus is an industry standard that establishes specifications for cables, connectors and protocols for connection, communication and power supply between computers, peripherals and other computers. Why are there different types of USB cable? The reason there are so many versions of USB cables is that manufacturers continue to find ways to increase their transfer rate and power supply. Today we are going to discuss about 5 types of common USB that you might have seen in daily life.


Firstly, the most famous USB cable is USB Type-A can be found partnered with other USB Type in a same wire. You can connect various devices such as smartphones, cameras, keyboards and more to computer to transfer data, or plug into wall chargers to charge the gadgets with a Type-A port.





Secondly, 8-Pin Lightning  is a proprietary computer bus and power connector created and designed by Apple Inc. This connector is used to connect Apple mobile devices like iPhones, iPads, and iPods to host computers, external monitors, cameras, USB battery chargers, and other peripherals. 


      



Thirdly, the Mini USB is commonly used in MP3/4, GoPro, and digital cameras. Mini USB can be divided into 3 types which is A-type, B-type and AB-type. The advantages of mini USB is that it is sealed and can be effectively waterproof and dustproof, and easily can be placed in a pocket due to the small size.


           




Lastly, Micro USB and USB Type-C both are very popular USB connectors in the market. People tends to get confuse between this 2 types. So lets see what is the difference between this 2 USB.

Micro USB:
- designed with a 5-pin group
- average data transfer speed
- regular charging speed (input power only)
- affordable

USB Type-C:
- designed with a 24-pin group
- fast data transfer speed
- more faster and flexible (input or output power)
- price a little bit higher than Micro USB
